A google shopping campaign lives or dies on feed quality long before anyone touches a bid. This project rebuilt product data and campaign structure for a premium grooming brand competing on intent rather than budget.

Why shopping performance starts with the feed

Shopping results are matched from product data, not from keywords. If a title is vague, a category is wrong, or an attribute is missing, the product simply does not appear against the searches it should win - and no amount of budget corrects that.

ManCave was competing in a crowded grooming category against larger advertisers. Winning on spend was not the plan, so the work had to come from precision: appearing against high-intent product searches rather than broad brand ones.

The existing setup grouped products too loosely to control that. Different margins, different intent levels and different price points were sharing budget, which makes performance impossible to read and impossible to improve.

How we restructured the Google Ads search campaign

We rebuilt the product feed first: titles written the way people actually search, correct categorisation, and complete attributes so products qualify for the searches they deserve.

Campaigns were then regrouped so that products with different economics no longer competed for the same budget. Once groups reflect real margin and intent, the reporting becomes decision-ready rather than descriptive.

Tracking was aligned to eCommerce outcomes rather than clicks, so the question at review became which products earn their spend, not which ads got attention.

What was delivered

A rebuilt product feed with search-aligned titles and complete attributes

Campaign structure grouped by margin and purchase intent

Inventory and data-quality checks to prevent silent disapprovals

Conversion tracking aligned to eCommerce performance, not clicks

A reporting view that shows which products earn their spend

A documented scaling plan for the groups that prove profitable

What changed

The campaign positioned key products more clearly in shopping results and created a stronger foundation for profitable search-led acquisition.

Structurally, the account moved from one undifferentiated spend to a set of readable groups - which is what makes scaling a decision rather than a gamble.

Google Shopping questions

Why does the product feed matter more than bids?

Because the feed decides whether you are eligible for a search at all. Bidding only competes for the auctions you already qualify for.

How should shopping campaigns be grouped?

By economics and intent, not by catalogue structure. Products with different margins should not share a budget.

How long before performance is readable?

Long enough to gather meaningful conversion data per group - typically several weeks, and longer for low-volume products.

Can this run alongside search campaigns?

Yes, and it usually should. Shopping and search answer different moments in the same purchase.

What this project confirmed

Feed quality sets the ceiling. No amount of bid management rescues a shopping campaign whose product titles do not match how people search.

Structure by margin and intent, not by catalogue. Grouping products the way the business thinks about them is what makes the reporting actionable.

Check the landing experience on a phone before increasing spend. A slow product page quietly discards a share of every audience you pay for.
