About Remote Staffing & Virtual Assistance

What you reach for when the work is real and continuous but does not justify a local hire.

Remote staffing covers a spread of arrangements that usually get flattened into one word. A virtual assistant taking the calendar and the inbox off one person is not the same purchase as a dedicated employee who works your hours and only for you, and neither is the same as a supervised team with a manager sitting between you and them. They are priced within sight of one another and they behave nothing alike.

The difficult part is rarely finding people. It is deciding what to hand over, and then noticing whether it went well — which is a question about supervision and measurement rather than about recruitment. Most arrangements that fail were never measured; they were simply hoped about for a quarter and then quietly ended.

This section is written from running desks rather than from selling them, so it includes the parts that are inconvenient to us: which roles do not travel well, where time-zone overlap stops being free, and when hiring locally is the honest answer.

Where to start

There are 46 pieces below. These are the ones worth opening first.

  1. Dedicated VA vs Freelancer Compared

Start here if you have not settled what you are actually buying. The two sit at similar prices and fail in completely different ways.

  2. Tasks to Outsource to a Virtual Assistant

A list to argue with rather than copy. Most people hand over the wrong half on the first attempt.

  3. Remote Team Quality Control Best Practices

The part that decides whether any of it holds, and the part almost nobody plans before month three.
